Special exhibition “Unification of Japan—Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, Ieyasu and Gifu—”
October 7 (Sat) − November 19 (Sun), 2023
As described by the saying “He who controls Mino controls Japan,” Mino, located in Kyoto’s proximity offered fertile logistical support, and served as a crucial gateway to the “realm of Japan.” Figures such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu, all aspired to become “unifiers of Japan,” engaged in conflicts over Gifu.
In this exhibition, we will mainly explore the battles set in the Mino region and trace the journey towards the “unification of Japan” by Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu. In conjunction with these narratives, we will also introduce the evolution of the functionality and design of armor.
